Paul Koken He studied first with his father, Edmund Koken (1814-1872) , before attending the School of Art in Weimar. In 1873 he went to Munich to study further with Adolf Lier who encouraged his atmospheric paintings. In 1878 Koken left Munich in order to complete his studies with Theodor Hagen in Weimar. After finally returning to Munich in 1881, Koken travelled to the North Sea, the islands of Juist and Helgoland as well as the area around Hannover in order to paint.
